With the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games Approaching our riders, trainers, and judges have been on the road at the numerous horse shows around the world.
2013 Symposiums/ Clinics:
2013 U.S. National Para-Dressage Symposium May 29-June 1, 2013 Lyman, Maine
From May 29-June 1, equestrians from Grade Ia – Grade IV received classroom training, lectures, video training, and live riding lessons. In addition to equestrian training there was the “Train the Trainer” program and “SmartPak Coaches Forum”. Subjects addressed at the symposium included training the coaches, teamwork, and building upon each athlete’s current skills. Expert leaders at the symposium were FEI “O” Judge and Olympic Technical Delegate Hanneke Gerritsen of Holland, Gold medal Great Britain Paralympic coach Clive Milkins, international Dressage rider Catherine Haddad Staller, and former USEF High Performance Dressage Director Gil Merrick. Carlisle has partnered with the United States Equestrian Federation, United States Para-Equestrian Association, and SmartPak for the first in a series of educational events across the United States.
2013 U.S. National Para-Dressage Symposium November 20-23, 2013 Winters, CA
On November 20, the Train the Trainer Workshop was conducted to educate current and future Para-Equestrian coaches on Para-Dressage subjects. Classroom topics included Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) rules, compensating aids, and the classification process defined. Trainers, auditors, and riders were given the opportunity to view demonstrations of Grades I-IV Para-Dressage tests from the judge’s perspective. Lectures included gold medal coach Clive Milkins (U.K.); FEI 4* Para-Dressage judge, David Schmutz; classifiers Tina Wentz and Joann Benjamin; FEI 5* Veterinarian Mike Tomlinson, DVM, MBA; and trainer Cherylin Von AldenBruck. Gil Merrick, former USEF High Performance Dressage Director, gave the keynote address detailing the importance of building a successful team in, “A Team Approach”. On November 21, symposium attendees
begin a full day of private lessons at Somerset Farm with Clive Milkins and Dennis Callan with accompanying classroom lectures. The 2013 U.S. National Para-Dressage Training Symposium, is organized by Carlisle Academy Integrative Equine Therapy & Sports and sponsored by the United States Para-Equestrian Association (USPEA) and United States Equestrian Federation.
In 2011-2012 there were multiple opportunities for Riders, Trainers, Stewards, and Judges to increase their knowledge of the Para-Equestrian Discipline. Judges and Stewards headed to Del Mar, CA for the 2012 Dressage Affaire CPEDI3*. During the horse show judges and stewards earned their classification for the Para-Equestrian Dressage discipline.
The Carlisle Academy hosted a Boot Camp and Train the Trainer for riders and trainers who were current Para-Equestrians/ trainers or future Para-Equestrians/ trainers.
In 2011 Debbie McDonald conducted a Para-Equestrian clinic and it was free for all members of the USPEA.
In 2012, Mette Rosencrantz conducted a Para-Equestrian clinic which was once again free for all members of the USPEA
