Genevieve Rohner is an 11-year old Grade V para-dressage athlete. As a triplet, born prematurely at 28 weeks, her underdeveloped neurological system led to a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy, Sensory Integration Disorder and incorrectly positioned right leg bones. One of her brothers had a stroke at birth and also has Cerebral Palsy. At four years old, he was in a Hippotherapy clinical trial with Ride-On Therapeutic Horsemanship, a para-dressage Center of Excellence. Then four, she was invited to try riding as well and fell in love.
Progressing from Hippotherapy to Therapeutic riding to Para-dressage, she discovered not only a love of horses, but a love of competing. The connection between horse and rider provides a sense of calmness for her. Under the tutelage of Megan McQueeney
At Ride-On, and now Sydni Peterson in Utah, Genevieve has developed into an accomplished rider with her sights set on representing The U.S. at the 2024 Paralympics.
Officially classified at age 9, Genevieve is focused and passionate about being a competitive para equestrian and is always seeking more equine knowledge. 2018 was her first year in rated shows. The only para rider and two to five years younger than all her competitors, she trained on one horse in Utah and competed on another in California. She qualified for the California Junior Championships, CDS Regionals and USDF Regionals at Training level, placing 5th and 6th overall in each competition and earning a CDS Top Ten placement.
In 2019 she began successfully competing at her FEI grade level tests and being placed on the USEF Emerging Athletes list.
Focused and motivated, Genevieve has had the opportunity to train on a variety of breeds in her seven plus years of riding, including her current half-Arabian/half-American Saddlebred horse ‘Fame’s Rising Star’. She is grateful for having horses in her life and sums it up best, “My brain feels better when I’m with horses.”
