Mill Spring, NC – June 18, 2021 – Under clear blue skies at the beautiful Tryon International Equestrian Center Para Dressage riders watched excitedly as their horses jogged for the Final U.S. Observation Event for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. Thirteen FEI horses were presented at the Mill Spring, NC trot-up. These horse and rider combinations will compete June 18-20, in the CPEDI3*/CPEDI1*/ Tryon Summer Dressage National show. The weekend will follow the Tokyo Paralympic time schedule with evening rides under the lights. Ride times begin Friday, June 18, at 8:30 PM starting with the individual championship test, the team test on Saturday, and freestyle on Sunday. Para Dressage athletes in Grade I, II, III, IV, and V will ride down centerline in front of the ground jury including Adrienne Pot (USA) 3*, John Robinson (GBR) 5*, and Sarah Leitch (GBR) 5*. The Adequan® U.S. Para Dressage Team was declared following the FEI jog with number one FEI World ranked individual rider and WEG Bronze medalist and Paralympian Roxanne Trunnell and Dolton, owned by Flintwoode Farms LLC and Karin Flint (Grade I); Paralympian Sydney Collier and All in One, owned by Going for Gold LLC and Katie Robicheaux (Grade I); WEG Silver and bronze medalist and Paralympian Rebecca Hart and El Corona Texel, owned by Rowan O’Riley (Grade III); and WEG bronze medalist Kate Shoemaker and Solitaer 40, owned by Kate, Craig, and Deena Shoemaker (Grade IV). The U.S. team is led by Chef d’Equipe and USEF Head of Coach Development & Para Dressage Technical Advisor Michel Assouline.
Following this event four horse and rider combinations and two alternates will be selected by July 5, to travel to Germany for Training Camp. This will occur before the athletes head to the Tokyo Paralympic Games August 24-September 5, 2021. Three horse and rider combinations will be chosen for the Adequan® U.S. Para Dressage Team in Tokyo with one rider competing as an individual.
