Mill Spring, NC – September 24, 2019 – The 2019 Tryon Fall Dressage CPEDI3* Presented by Adequan® and the USEF Para Equestrian Dressage National Champion Awards week were quite a success for U.S. Para-Dressage. The CPEDI3* was greatly attended by international athletes from four countries outnumbering the CDI; The U.S. Team produced top scores that were some of the best in history of U.S. Para-Dressage under Chef d’ Equipe Michel Assouline; and U.S. Para-Dressage riders were each given a contribution from Sharon Decker, Cindy Boyle, and Elma Garcia. From September 12-15, 2019, riders competed at the Tryon International Equestrian Center in not only the CPEDI3* but also the CPEDI1* and the USEF National Champion Awards. Riders were welcomed with southern hospitality at the beautiful Tryon International Equestrian Center by superb show management and volunteers. The relationships that began in 2018 at the World Equestrian Games at Tryon and continued to this CPEDI3* was the journey that aligned U.S. Para-Dressage and Tryon International Equestrian Center. Thanks to Michel Assouline, Sharon Decker, and US Equestrian, the future of U.S. Para-Dressage is looking bright.
USPEA’s President Hope Hand remarked, “Tryon’s southern hospitality was beyond belief. By the weeks end I wanted to move there. The people are gracious, friendly and welcoming. The support I felt for the athletes was truly genuine. Thank you for providing opportunities for our athletes and horses to excel.”
Just prior to the CPEDI3* competition U.S. Para-Dressage competitors gathered at Tryon where local equestrians Sharon Decker, Cindy Boyle, and Elma Garcia helped to raise $35,820.00 for the U.S. athletes competing in the National Championships. 100% of the monies received went directly to each athlete. Decker, Boyle, Garcia, and Tryon International Equestrian Center helped to host this event and provide a dinner for the special occasion. Following this event Sharon Decker was on hand to help present awards and show her appreciation for Para-Dressage.
Sharon Decker commented, “The intent of the checks for each of the athletes is a scholarship sponsorship for their continued training. We liked doing a direct sponsorship so each rider could use the funds for their needs. I have enjoyed being a part of the entire week at Tryon and now with the alignment of Tryon and U.S. Para-Dressage we are excited at the opportunity this discipline will have. It’s so wonderful to have these riders here in Tryon and we look forward to pushing this to become a center of excellence with USEF so riders can come and grow with their horses. We want to make Tryon the best it can be for Para-Dressage so we are always seeking feedback to help make it better and after each show we learn something new. These riders are so grateful for this place and the community support. Rutherfordton, Mill spring, and each of the local communities around here are embracing these athletes. I am thankful they recognize the opportunity we have.”
